Missing in May! (and Guildhall)
Hello fellow readers, sorry if it seems as if I went off the grid these past few weeks! I am back with two new blog posts this weekend! I will start with a great restaurant I ate at in the beginning of the month. Located in Glencoe, a north shore suburb, Guildhall had a pleasing aesthetic, and really good food. I had high hopes for Guildhall because their head chef, Christian Ragano came from Tru and NoMI. Being the first ones seated for the evening, we had a really early reservation at 5:30, I was a little concerned about the emptiness of the place. Luckily, the restaurant was bustling by 6, which I take as a good sign! The interior of the restaurant was simple, airy and beautiful. It consisted of a big, open dining area with unique and pretty light fixtures, most notably the cascading chandelier in the center of the restaurant. The light green walls, decorative windows, and rustic wood tables were understated, but really gave the restaurant a nice ambiance. Upon sitting down, we were greeted by homemade french baguette with a smoked honey butter. We then officially started our meal by ordering the "tarte flambée traditional" which was my personal favorite of the night. It had a crisp flatbread crust that was topped with caramelized onion, chive and lardons! It was very tasty and had a great contrast of flavors and textures. My dad got the crudo, which must have been delicious because I only had time to take a quick picture, and then it was gone! For our next courses my mom got the steak frites, and my dad got the half chicken. Per our waitresses suggestion, I got the house made fettuccine with fresh marinara sauce. The meal was great and I really appreciated the homemade pasta, it's a nice change from the boxed stuff I am used to eating! My dad really enjoyed his chicken, but we were all a little full from the bread and tarte, which made the next days lunch a great one! Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Guildhall, and I can't wait to go back!
